About acoustic labels & our formula

Acoustic control is aimed at regulating sound reflections within a space. To improve the acoustics, a product with absorbing capacity needs to be installed in that space. But how do you choose which product? We'll help you get started with our acoustic labels.

We score on four categories that are added together. This is the formula:

Absorption value + acoustic surface area + sustainability + price-quality ratio

This formula produces a score, which is then given a label. This makes the quality clearly and transparently visible. After all, a product with a lower absorption value isn't automatically an unsuitable product — sometimes you simply need more of another product to achieve the same result.

1.

The degree of absorption is measured in a special test room. That measurement produces a value, shown in a graph, which we call the absorption value. This value runs from A to E. This graph is usually tucked away somewhere in the small print.

– Products with a value of A or B get three points in the Absorption Value category.
– Products with a low B, C or a high D get 2 points.
– Naturally, products with a value of D or E get only 1 point.

2.

In terms of performance, acoustic products can also be assessed on their acoustic surface area, alongside the absorption value. The larger the surface area, the more sound reflections they can capture. Because this is just as essential as the absorption value, we assess it as a separate category.

– Products with an absorption value of C or D get 3 points if they also have an extra-large surface area.

– Wall or ceiling panels mounted directly against the ceiling only have absorption capacity on one side. Partition walls, floating panels and lighting therefore have a large acoustic surface area.

– Some products only have a very thin layer of absorbing material. This is reflected in the points received.

3.

A green production process, materials that can be recycled, replaceable parts and a product's lifespan — hugely important. That's why we're happy to reward genuinely green products with 3 points.

4.

The categories above naturally contribute to the price-quality ratio, but the finish of products, their practical usability and optional choices such as fabrics, colours, mounting options and plenty of other extras also earn points.
