Foamo is a Dutch brand that designs pendant lamps that go beyond shape alone: every single one is entirely handmade from basotect melamine foam, a material known for its high sound absorption. The result is organic, sculptural lamps that don't just light a space, but also noticeably calm it down.
Form and texture that go beyond an ordinary lampshade
The ribbed, layered shapes of Foamo's lamps are no accident: the relief increases the surface area of the acoustic foam, directly contributing to sound absorption. At the same time, that relief creates a soft, diffused light spread instead of a sharp light source.
Colour applied by hand, through flocking
Foamo colours its lamps using a technique called flocking: tiny colour fibres are applied by hand onto an adhesive layer. This creates a soft, velvety finish you won't see on an ordinarily painted lamp, and one that turns out just a little different with every piece.
